Elise McPherson

Washington and Lee University

I am an undergraduate student at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. I am working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 2026, and I also study Spanish and Dance. I am interested in improving the efficiency of clinical care, especially in the field of oncology imaging for underserved populations. The Imaginnovation lab looks at improving specificity in existing imaging techniques and creating new ones, along with many other important subfields. This has the potential to bring specialized medicine to a wider population in the long run—I hope to bring my passion for this idea to my work in Dr. Xie’s lab.

Outside the lab, I am a member of W&L’s Repertory Dance Company; in University Singers, an internationally-competitive choir; and a Peer Counsellor for First-Year students. I love dancing, rock climbing, and getting milkshakes with friends!
